A handmade gift is treasured on any occasion. It can also work out more economical and long-lasting than items bought in a shop. This course will give you several ideas for gifts that you can make yourself - for Christmas or any occasion - using just your sewing machine and your creativity. You will get a chance to create your craft item in a fun, relaxed and inspiring environment, under the guidance of a skilled and creative tutor.
In this short sewing course for beginners, you will learn to make some Christmas gifts using simple sewing skills. With easy patterns, choose between a Santa sack or tote bag, festive bunting or Christmas cushions. Explore some detailing such as applique technique and using beads & buttons to give a decorative touch. Participants should have some experience of using a sewing machine and supply their own decorative fabric.
Over 4 nights participants will choose their project, create a pattern, practice decorative stitches, sew and have fun!!
Each participant should bring:
- Sewing machine if possible (but some college machines will be available)
- Coloured threads
- Pins & Needles
- Fabric Scissors
- Decorative fabric (can be bought or upcycled from sheets, pillowcases, etc)
- Decorative trims, buttons, bows, ribbons etc (can be bought or gathered, etc)
