This course is aimed at the beginner in family history research and will introduce the essentials needed to research your family tree. It will guide you through sources you need to research to start your own tree. It discusses primary and secondary sources and administrative divisions used in the past that most primary sources were based upon. The main sources such as Census, Church, Civil and Land Records and other sources such as Folklore/Oral History, Newspapers and others are examined. The course will also include information and tips on researching online on the various genealogical sites, compiling and documenting your research. Researching in other counties and countries will be discussed. There will be a practical element to the course where individuals will be able to access and research online during the course both class examples and their own research.
